Foundation
Guadalajara is not a common city it had 4 different foundations.
Nochistlan
This place was the first in wich Guadalajara was established in the area known as Mesa del Cerro , nowadays known as San Juan. It was founded in January 5th by Cristobal de Oñate comissioned by Nuño de Guzman.
Tonala.
In the order of Juan de Oñate, who was commissioned by his father mayor of the new town, in May 24 of 1533, it was ordered that the foundation was made in the vicinity of Tonala. So, by the day of August 8 1533, Guadalajara was in its second seat.
Tlacotán
After two years of being in that village and after constant attacks from indigenous groups, Nuño de Guzmán ordered Tlacotán to be founded close by March, 1535. The new city was attacked on September 28, 1541 by the Indians who had participated in the War of Mixtón. Cristobal de Oñate, then governor of the city organized a battle against the natives of which were victorious the new inhabitants of Guadalajara. They thought then move it to el Valle de Atemajac, this valley ran the river now known as San Juan de Dios and was a safer place to be defended from attack of the natives.

XX CENTURY
During this time begins its development Guadalajara, Jalisco governor, Agustín Yáñez, promoted respect for human life, stating that this respect is necessary for peace, private property and the municipality. With engineer Jorge Matute Remus, as mayor, from 1953 to 1956 was built here the first country bus station, located on Calle R. On January 31 of 1960 was opened the Estadio Jalisco, with a capacity for approximately thirty-five thousand espectadores. In 1970 was expanded to sixty-five thousand.
In 1968, during the government of Francisco Medina Ascencio (1965-1971), when the country was in full harmony and development (before the XIX Olympiad that year took place in Mexico), began a period of violence and social disruption.
From 1970 until 1990 all that happened in Guadalajara were guerrillas and economic crisis, it was kind of a bad period but everything get a little better for a few years because then it came..
Guillermo Cosio Vidaurri (1989-1992), who made some important works. Unfortunately it is the serious problem of the explosions in the Sector Reforma in Guadalajara on April 22, 1992, caused by the presence of gas in the drain. For this reason, left without fulfilling his term, and was succeeded Carlos Rivera Aceves (1992-1995), whose most important work was several road works.
And finally in 1994 came the biggest crisis ever in Mexico, with this one many people couldnt finish paying all their bills and loans to the banks.
An after that everything got so much better in Guadalajara Jalisco.

Political Life
Due to the growth of the urban area, the metropolitan area consists of the following municipalities:
Guadalajara, Zapopan,Tonala, Tlaquepaque, Tlajomulco de Zuniga, El Salto, Juanacatlan and Ixtlahuacán de los membrillos. Each municipality is governed by a popularly elected mayor and a three-year term.
The mayors, along with a group of aldermen Cabildo name, form a council. In this sense every urban and suburban municipality is autonomous, and what unites towards metropolitan area is the Metropolitan Council, which is composed of the municipalities mentioned above and is governed by the state governor. This group's function is to see problems and solutions in urban and mainly solve together. Each township is divided into zones, these have the function of the ordering of the overall urban planning, Guadalajara has the following seven areas: Centre, Minerva, Huentitán, Oblates Olympic Tetlán and Cruz del Sur.
In the same way, the metropolitan area is divided into four sectors: Juárez, Hidalgo, Freedom and Reform.
And here the name of all the mayors in Guadalajara:
As we can see in 1995 Guadalajara changes from PRI to PAN this is because in 1994 came a really dufficult crisis that made a lot of people to loose their jobs and to elevate their bills and loans to just make them impossible to pay, and added to these came the explosions of 1992 in Guadalajara by that time the mayor of GDL was from PRI too, so that made the people not trust in them and try another option like it was PAN.
